Situated on 1,100 acres in Middlefield, Connecticut, Lyman Orchards is a year-round family destination. Established in 1741, Lyman Orchards offers a variety of recreational activities and venues for adults and children of all ages - including pick-your-own fruit orchards, a farm market, seasonal mazes, 36 holes of championship golf, a par-29 nine-hole course, one of the top golf-training facilities in the state of Connecticut, 1741 Pub & Grill, meeting and event space, and seasonal festivals.
In 2024, Lyman Orchards Golf Club PGA Professional Alex Cavaliere was recognized as a Top 50 Instructor by Operation 36, a developmental program and technology to introduce and guide anyone in playing the game of golf, the second straight year he has been so honored. The new award came just three months after Cavaliere was awarded the 2024 Youth Player Development Award by the Connecticut PGA Section.
Since starting the Operation 36 program at Lyman Orchards in 2022, Cavaliere has grown the instruction and development program to more than 259 golfers.
The Operation 36 Top 50 Award stands out in the industry as the only recognition award based on quantitative measurements that identify coaches making the greatest impact on player development through their teaching programs. The award is backed by comprehensive data collected throughout the year, ensuring an objective evaluation process based on relevant metrics. Golf coaches are evaluated by their use of formal golf matches throughout the year, application of the Operation 36 curriculum, assessing golfer's progress throughout the season, and the use of online social tools to encourage more practice and play.
"Alex is an extremely knowledgeable and engaging coach," said Lyman Orchards Golf Club Director of Golf John Dipollina, PGA. "His patience with all students allows for optimal growth, but most specifically with juniors and those who are brand new to the game."
Cavaliere joined the team at Lyman Orchards in 2022 after graduating from Penn State University's Professional Golf Management program, where his research on the biomechanics of the golf swing serves as a cornerstone of his curriculum. He completed additional coursework to earn minor degrees and certificates from Penn State in Kinesiology, Instructors in Connecticut. Cavaliere has completed additional coursework to become a PGA Teaching and Coaching Specialized Professional, an Operation 36 Certified Professional, a U.S. Kids Certified Coach, a Mach 3 Authorized Instructor, and an EyeLine Elite Putting Instructor.
He also holds certificates from the Titleist Performance Institute's Level 1 Body-Swing Connection and Level 2 Fitness, Golf, Power, and Junior Player Development. He is SuperSpeed Level 3 Certified, Swing Catalyst Level 1 Certified, and ADM certified. He also obtained a National Coach Certification from the Human Kinetics Coach Education Center.
Cavaliere is also captain of Lyman's PGA Jr. League 17U All-Stars, with his teams winning back-to-back Connecticut Section PGA championships in 2022 and 2023 and was a regional finalist in 2024. He also serves as assistant coach of the 13U All-Star teams, which finished in second place at the 2023 and 2024 sectional and regional champtionships.
In 2023, he was selected as one of the 15 PGA professionals nationwide to comprise Cohort IX of the highly competitive leadership development program known as PGA LEAD. Locally, Cavaliere serves on the Player Engagement/Membership Committees and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Section of the PGA.
